Essay on food

When talking about food almost everybody has in mind the fact of “eating” as a necessity for all human beings. Nevertheless, food has other benefits that we cannot ignore, such as providing a time and space for people to interact with each other. The extracts above revolve around the importance of food not only as something vital for life, but as an incomparable pleasure which we sometimes neglect in our hectic society.

It has been shown scientifically that food is synonym with happiness. What really differentiate us from animals is not simply eating, but the way we do it. Who has not had great family moments during a dinner conversation? Or who has not enjoyed watching football with friends while having a delicious pizza? It is surely beyond all dispute that food is a unique pleasure that triggers positive emotions within us: love, excitement, security, and last but not least, happiness. What is more, in many cultures food is a symbol of national identity. Take the example of the proud French people, who are internationally famous for their magnificent red wine.

However, are we truly conscious of the benefits of food? Do we actually enjoy the food we eat? The truth is that we are living in a very stressful and anxious world, and everything around us moves frenetically. For this reason, most of us actually do not have enough time to enjoy what we eat and hence are missing one of the greatest experiences of life, like cooking a traditional meal with friends. Instead, we tend to abuse of fast food and convenient meals, and most usually eat alone in a park.

To my mind, nothing compares to homemade food. Perhaps we have too many things to do throughout the day, but this should not be an impediment to eat healthily and enjoy a good meal in the company of our friends and family.
